The primary colors are yellow, red (or magenta) and blue (or cyan). These are the three symbolic colors of earth, water and vegetation. All other colors are derived from its basic colors. Note that if you mix all 3, you get black. In decor, these 3 colors are rarely used “pure” but rather nuanced.
Secondary colors result from mixing two primary colors that are orange (red + yellow), green (blue + yellow) and purple (red + blue).
The colors are called complementary when they are opposite on the color wheel. It thereby provides contrasts: the complementary of yellow is violet to blue is orange, and green is red).
